THE HOLIDAY GIFT EDIT

November 24, 2014 THE KLOG

Editor's Note: Hey guys! Say hello to my friend and teammate Emily. She was once a newbie to Korean cosmetics, but now she's a believer in the routine and the products! With Christmas around the corner and gifting on her mind, she told me she was planning to gift her favorite K-beauty finds to her friends and family. So naturally, I've asked her to round up what Korean beauty goodies she's planning to gift. Read below to check out her K-beauty holiday shopping gift guide!

Me and my daughter Madeleine

Okay so I have good news and bad news. I’ll spare you and start with the bad news: we are already at the end of November and I’m guessing most of us haven’t put a dent in our holiday shopping list!  The good news: I’m here to help you sort through the holiday frenzy and find cool, unique K-beauty gifts that will really make your friends and family feel truly special.

As you may have heard, Korean skincare is the latest beauty phenomenon, setting trends in the global beauty industry and capturing the attention of beauty editors and bloggers alike. Why? Skincare is so engrained in the Korean culture that they have developed some of the best quality products you can find at affordable prices. And of course, there are products that simply have the cutest packaging!

To be honest, at first I was a little worried that K-beauty was just for…well, Koreans. I quickly found out these products are for everyone, and like many of you have shared with us, I've also become obsessed with Korean cosmetics. I cannot deny the results of softer, smoother more radiant skin with a solid Korean-style skincare regimen.  And I can't get over how affordable everything is.  Now rather than gifting the same old standard beauty staples, I'm here to share with you why I'm choosing to gift K-beauty products.

So, where do you start? As a working mom of a little toddler, I simply don't have the luxury of time.  With 10-step routines, innovative and "interesting" ingredients, and tons of brands to choose from–it can be intimidating to jump right in.

Now the good news! To make it easy for you, I thought I'd highlight some great gifts that will really delight your friends and families. And I made sure that my picks have been positively reviewed by Soko Glam customers, are suitable for all skin types and under $50!

The Super Cute Stocking Stuffer:

At only $8, these adorable little panda hand creams are perfect for stocking stuffers, holiday goodie bags, or even displayed on packages as part of the gift wrapping. The hand cream leaves your hands smooth and soft, which is a must in these cold winter months. They're so cutely packaged, they can display it on their desk or in their bathroom.

The Essential Skincare Staple

As someone new to K-beauty, the Banila Co. Clean It Zero Classic is the first Korean cleanser that I tried and I instantly fell in love with. This award-winning hypoallergenic cleanser is sorbet soft, so even just massaging on your skin is a treat. Adding an oil-based cleanser to your skincare routine is a total game changer. People shy away from oil-based products because they imagine it making their skin greasy, but actually the opposite is true. The oil gently pulls out impurities from your skin, leaving it soft and silky smooth. You only need to use a small amount, so this $25 jar will last you a long while. As an essential step to the famous Korean double-cleanse, this is a great gift for people new to K-beauty or who wouldn’t think to buy themselves an oil-based cleanser.

The Latest Beauty Must-Have

Every year I stress and stress about what to get my Mom for Christmas. I’m always trying to find something distinctive and thoughtful that makes her feel special, but that’s also within my budget. This year one I’m getting her the MISSHA Super Aqua Special Set (I already told her she can’t read this post until after Christmas). What makes this gift set so special? Snail mucin. Snail mucin is a fluid that snails excrete to protect their skin. It was first discovered by snail farmers whose hands looked noticeably smoother because they were handling snails all day. Korean cosmetics companies took note of this discovery and started making products using this powerhouse ingredient. I’m so excited to get this for my Mom to try because it’s unique, has an interesting back story, and ultimately because I hope it will help her achieve brighter and more radiant skin.

The Every Day Skincare Treat

Sheet masks have become hugely popular in the US. For people like me who don’t have a lot of time to pamper ourselves with trips to the spa or even lengthy nighttime skincare routines, these are an easy way to treat ourselves to hydrated, smooth, healthy skin. After all, hydration is the best way to reduce fine lines and get that dewy, radiant glow. All you have to do is place the mask on your face and just relax for 20-30 minutes while it does all of the work. Then peel and discard. No messy cleanup! With so many fun types of sheet masks out there to discover and prices as low as $3 a set, I’m excited to give my friends little mix and match goodie bags with different masks to try. These also make great stocking stuffers!

The King of Cleansers

Skinfood’s Egg White Pore Foam is gentle cleanser packed with amino acids that that naturally restore and nourish skin. It is a Soko Glam best seller that can be used solo in the morning and night. It’s only $16 and a little goes a long way - all you need is a pea-sized amount to create enough foam for your entire face to remove water-based debris. Want to go a step further? Pair this with the Banila Co Clean It Zero (mentioned above) to give a well-rounded Korean double-cleanse gift set!

I hope this little gift guide makes your holiday shopping easier by sharing the unique gift of K-beauty to all your loved ones!
