I’m a big wine drinker. My personal fave? A light and fruity glass of pinot grigio or prosecco—and I'll take that over a beer or cocktail any day. I love reds too, but I avoid drinking it when I go out because I think it stains my teeth and I’m left with a really messy looking pout by the end of the night.
In terms of telling the difference between a $10 bottle of wine and $100 bottle and what regions are great for cultivating the grapes for wine—absolutely NO CLUE. I simply consume and don’t ask questions.
What I do know about drinking reds, is that an occasional glass is good for you! The resveratrol found in red grapes (specifically the peel of the grape) is actually beneficial to your health. It's been found in multiple reputable studies that resveratrol contains a natural and powerful phenol, which helps fights sources of bacteria (i.e. disease). Of course that didn't stop them from finding out if resveratrol helps the skin. It turns out it's a bonafide antioxidant that does support the skin's natural defenses, including fighting free radicals.
Why do we care about antioxidants? We naturally have antioxidants that protect our body and skin from disease but as we age we need to supplement our existing antioxidants by consuming them and applying them topically on skin. Antioxidants help reduce free-radical damage, which comes from environmental factors like pollution and sun rays, and if left to their own devices, will break down our collagen and lead to wrinkles and loss of elasticity.
I’ve been a little obsessed with this ingredient and recently curated two products on the site that feature resveratrol.
FYI resveratrol is also found in other yummy things: certain chocolates and beers, so you don’t only have to seek out grapes and wine. How to pronounce this long & crazy ingredient? Well, that’s what the internet is for.
