Valentine’s Day is a terrible holiday. I’m happily married and I still hate it. To me Valentine’s Day is a day that is impossible to get dinner reservations and if you do manage to get them, you’re stuck with an overpriced pre-fixe meal. Let’s not forget the pressure to receive or to give gifts…
Might I suggest Galentine’s Day instead? It's a day set aside for ladies to celebrate ladies, single or not. Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation was the first to suggest this, and, well... it stuck.
Here are some ways you can make February 13th, aka Galentine's Day, into the best day of the year.
1. Nail game strong
25 Minimalist Nail Art Designs (Buzzfeed)
I don't know how many times I've tried to do nail art on my own and all I got was a Pinterest Fail moment. Consider this a perfect day to create eye-catching nail art for each other- no skills needed.
Never enough sheet masks. Don't forget to stock up!
There's nothing like gossiping with your besties sans makeup and with a ghostly sheet mask clinging onto your face. Don't forget to capture the moment with a silly sheet mask selfie. If you don’t have any to spare, you can make DIY sheet masks with cotton pads. Soak the cotton pads with your favorite hydrating essence or toner, place them on your cheeks, forehead and chin. Voila! Instant pamper session. For oily or acne-prone skin types, opt in for the wash off variety that will help calm and remove impurities.
3. Rom-com it up
You know that daydream you had of your biggest crush falling for you?
Relive it with the latest hit Korean drama, Cheese in the Trap. It's my new favorite and I'm officially obsessed. Stream for free with english subtitles here. I guarantee you’ll have feels before the first episode is over.
4. Book club, anyone?
The Little Book of Skin Care - read the reviews!
Really? You're not in a book club yet? Here's how it works. Sip on wine, munch on finger foods and gossip about fictional characters with your friends. It doesn't get any better than that.
5. Recreate trendy foods you only read about
There's nothing like experimenting with your gals in the kitchen. The best part is - there is no one to judge you if it looks better than it tastes. For an easy peasy ramen burger recipe check out this tutorial here. If you're smart, have backup delivery options ready to go - juuuust in case.
