CLEANSING BALMS

The first step to a clearer complexion.

WHAT IS A CLEANSING BALM?

A cleansing balm is a solid, rich cleanser - most often oil-based formulas - that helps to effectively cleanse the skin of impurities while still helping maintain an optimal balance of hydration.

You can find a perfect cleansing balm for every skin type! Cleansing balms are safe not only for normal or combination skin types, but just as effective for oily skin types AND dry skin types, too. A good daily cleansing routine incorporating a balm will give you noticeably healthier, smoother skin. We rounded up our favorites below.

CLEANSING BALM VS. OIL CLEANSER

This comes down to preference! Both an oil cleansing balm and oil cleanser (liquid form) will work great for the first step in a double cleanse. Cleansing balms have a large fan base because they’re typically travel-friendly (check the sizing allowance first!) since they're solid, and the experience is often quite rewarding with the multiple texture changes of a balm. But, there’s plenty of oil cleansers that we love and recommend here!

HOW TO USE A CLEANSING BALM

To use a cleansing balm, first apply a small scoop of the cleansing balm directly onto your dry face. Yes, you heard us! Massage the product on your face (be careful of the eye and lip areas) and you’ll start to see makeup, oils, and SPF melt away. We recommend doing this for about a minute. Then, get a splash of water on your hands and continue massaging your face - the balm will begin to emulsify and turn a milky texture. Next, you’ll rinse your face with water and gently wash all the product off your face. That’s it!

If you’re adopting a double cleanse (which we highly recommend! It’s a game changer!) then you will follow this step - while your face is still wet - with your water cleanser.
